Reading station celebrates its historic past and bright future as it turns 185-years-old
Reading station turns 185-years-old this week, having opened its doors in 1840 as a temporary terminus for Brunel’s Great Western Railway while engineers continued building the line to Bristol, the eventual final stop on the line. Passengers are invited to join the station team and community members from 3pm-5pm today (Friday 28 March) to mark the occasion, with live music and a railway-related exhibition as the star attractions.

Railway 200 Events Update
Railway 200 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway.
So far, over 300 events celebrating the past, present and future of the railway have been scheduled across Britain over the coming year. More events are being added to Railway 200's website every week.

TWO WEEKS TO GO: Major engineering work across the south coast to impact services in Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth during the Easter holidays
- Services between Southampton and Portsmouth will not run for between 12 and 20 April 2025
- Weekend closures between Southampton Central and Bournemouth to impact Main Line services
- Buses will replace all trains from Southampton Central on Easter Sunday
- Line connecting Twickenham and Teddington, in south west London, to be closed for three days over the Easter weekend. Rail replacement buses will run.
