Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), with Siemens Mobility, has successfully upgraded one of its Class 717 Great Northern trains to the latest specification of the in-cab digital signalling, European Train Control System (ETCS).

Opportunities for apprenticeships within Network Rail are being highlighted – as figures show the career route is popular but there is a lack of knowledge about the wide range of options available.

From Saturday 15 to Friday 21 February 2025, parts of the railway between Portsmouth and Havant and Fareham will be closed and rail replacement buses will be in operation, while Network Rail completes critical engineering upgrades to the railway.

Saturday marks one week to go until train services will change on the West of England Line between Salisbury and Yeovil Junction between 22 February and 28 February, with no trains calling at Sherborne or Templecombe stations all week, while Network Rail complete vital improvements to the railway in the Gillingham area.

TRU has announced plans to rebuild Station Road railway bridge in Cross Gates between March and November this year as part of its programme of improvements to deliver more frequent, faster, greener trains on a more reliable railway.

Network Rail have now opened tenders for a £100m programme partner to support the delivery of the Transpennine Route Upgrade – a multi-billion-pound railway electrification programme that will transform journeys across the Pennines, better connecting towns and cities like Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.  

Network Rail engineers are about to begin a £2.9m project to renew both platforms at Hillington West on the busy Glasgow – Paisley railway line. 

From Monday 10 March to Sunday 16 March, train services will change on the Heart of Wessex Line with no trains running between Yeovil Pen Mill and Castle Cary for a week, while Network Rail complete vital improvements to the railway in the Yeovil area.
